I hear music coming through the walls
My head says “quiet.” My heart sings along

I see strangers coming to the door
My head says “lock it.” My heart says “come in where it’s warm”

I feel tired but I can’t fall asleep
My head keeps talking. My heart says “dream”

I taste something bitter resting on my lips
My head saves it for later. My heart seals it with a kiss

I want to be like the walls. Worn and paper thin
My head says “don’t.” My heart lets the noise in
